A J-1 visa will let you participate in internships, traineeships as well as professional entry-level training at companies in the United States. We support programs all across the country and within different fields of work.
How To Qualify
The J-1 program offers three ways of qualifying in the internship/traineeship category.
Student or Recent Graduate Less Than 1 Year Ago
You can participate in a J-1 program as long as you are enrolled as a student (or graduated less than one year ago) from a post-secondary academic institution outside the USA.
Recent Graduate +
1 Year of Work Experience
You can participate in a J-1 program as a recent graduate when you have at least one year of full time work experience outside the United States.
No Degree +
5 Years of Work Experience
Individuals that are not currently a students and do not have a degree can still qualify when they have at least 5 years of full time work experience.
Locations
A J-1 visa allows you to participate in programs in any city and any state in the United States. Our personal recommendation is to stick to the major and larger cities as these usually offer great walkability as well as public transport to get around. It's also good to know that you are allowed to obtain a US drivers license while on a J-1 visa, but most participants will stick to cities that offer public transportation.
