The US Department of State now requires all J-1 visa applicants (amongst other non-immigrant visa applications in other visa categories) to schedule their visa appointment interview at the US Embassy or US Consulate only in their country of nationality or country of residency. This means J-1 visa applicants will no longer be able to apply for a J-1 visa while traveling abroad or while staying in a country short-term that isn't your official country of residence. This J-1 visa update is effective immediately.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate residency in the country where they are applying if the location of application is based on residency. Correspond.info will be working with you to provide qualifying documentation so your visa application wont be rejected due to this new requirement.
There are 16 countries where the US currently does not conduct non-immigrant visa operations, including Cuba, Iran, Russia and Ukraine. Nationals of these countries are required to travel to designated locations abroad to apply for their visa.
